Going Forward

Jimmy Lawlor

December 9 - December 19, 2010

Due to the weather conditions in Dublin Sol Art Gallery has rescheduled the exhibition of new paintings entitled “Going Forward” by acclaimed artist Jimmy Lawlor. Now opening on Thursday 9th of December 2010 at 6.30 pm at Sol Art Gallery, 8 Dawson Street, Dublin 2. The show runs until December 19th. Jimmy Lawlor was born in December 1967 in Wexford and currently lives in Westport. His work is based not only on the Irish sense of humour, but in vivid realisation that the old way of life will have vanished by our next generation. He has been exhibiting in Ireland with great success for over fifteen years. At a time when the country is desperatly clutching for a postive straw of hope from whatever direction , Jimmy Lawlor’s images draw us in and reflect for us the simple joys of living way beyond the complexities of our modern age. “Going Forward”, the theme image for the show, far from reminding us of the tense evocation of that current term, instead depicts a man out walking the beach with his dog with only the seagulls, sky & sea for company. That he is proceeding (Going Forward) against a gentle head wind is captured by Jimmy’s trademark surreal image of the balloons` slightly resisting his forward march. We know that this man will achieve the progress he seeks, as he ambles carefree along the beach, and it is that sense of real happiness in life, achieved by less fraught and complicated desires, and painted so expertly and empathetically by Jimmy, that will resonate and uplift his audience.
