Aidan Harte is one of Ireland’s most exciting young sculptors. Harte studied sculpture the Florence Academy of Art, a severe education he believed was essential to realizing his dark expressionist vision. Before beginning to sculpt, he worked in animation, directing an IFTA winning children’s television show, Skunk Fu, seen on BBC and Cartoon Network. Irenicon, his first novel will be published by Quercus Books in May 2012. He followed up his solo exhibition Inferno in 2010 with exhibitions at Art London in the Royal Hospital Chelsea in 2011 and a private show case of his work in New York. Although his work is evolving, he says all sculpture is about silhouette, line and contrast. The emphasis in these basics is evident in his decisive presentation which eschews colored patinas and neat surfaces. He places his work in the classical tradition though informed by the early 20th century expressionists.
